An English-language TV show is coming to Puerto Vallarta’s airwaves this Wednesday July 12 at 10:00 pm, the first time something like this happens.
According to Selena Luna, host and producer of Arts & Entertainment Puerto Vallarta, AEPV, a show like this was bound to happen, with all the English-speaking people living in the Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit area.
In an interview with Tribune Travel, Selena Luna told us about her and the show. (Disclaimer note: tribune.travel, TV Mar 10.1 and Radiante FM 98.3 belong to the same parent company, CPS Media.)
What’s your background in the show business?
I started in film and television in Canada. So first I started in live theater, theater school. Then I moved into supporting the arts and entertainment in Canada as an agent’s assistant. I worked for a large talent agency in Canada. And I had a boss who was very well known, powerful person in the film and television world in Canada.
Fast forward 18 years, I’m walking on the streets of Vallarta, and I bump into somebody. It’s my old boss from Canada who now lives here!
So, I bump into him, and I’m like, what are you doing here? And he’s living here. He’s retired, and he’s living out his retirement as a drag queen in Puerto Vallarta. I was like, oh, my gosh! So, that brought me right back into entertainment now in Puerto Vallarta.

Well, that’s a great story. When did that happen?
That was just over a year ago. So, I have spent a year in Puerto Vallarta. When I first came to Mexico, I brought my teenage kids, and we were living in Yelapa, but my daughter is a singer, and so when she came here, something about Mexico gave her her voice back, and she came out and did singing at the same venue as this my old boss.
He invited me to come to see his show, and then they had an open mic, and my daughter sang, and she was only 16, and she blew everybody away, and we decided to move here and focus on her career. So, it’s been an amazing year.
So, you are now producing Art and Entertainment Puerto Vallarta.
Yeah. It was really amazing to connect with Jessy Ruiz, who’s doing the Asphalt radio show. It’s such a great show. And doing something in English, which you don’t want this English language to dominate, but you do want to pull in the people that are wanting to know what’s going on in entertainment.
And when she found out I have a TV and film background, she said, well, she had this idea. What do I think? And I’m like, what do I think? I’ve been working on this. I’ve got every connection now in the live entertainment space and arts and culture and fine dining and everything sort of under that arts and culture and entertainment umbrella.
I am so ready for this! So when we met each other and then she brought me here, boom. It’s all happening.
Well, then you have been having like, magical encounters.
Magical, yes. But I think a lot of magical things happen in Puerto Vallarta because people talk about these energy lines that run through PV, and I can’t see them, but I feel like a lot of people have creative ideas or are just drawn to live here for some reason. And they’re happier here.
So, what are we having on Wednesdays? What’s going to happen in your show?
Well, the TV show is going to start airing Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. On July 12, that’s what I understand was going to be the pilot episode is going to air right after the news we’re going to have. It’s called AEPV. Arts and Entertainment Puerto Vallarta.
10:00 pm Wednesdays. That’s what I heard. What are we going to have?
Every week there’s something different: featured performing artists, locations, visual artists, fashion and design, ceramics, anything under the beautiful umbrella of arts and entertainment in Puerto Vallarta.
Tell us Selena, what moves you to do this?
Well, I think I’ve always supported artists in one way or the other. My father, both my parents were somewhat artists, but my mother, she got married and she had six children, so she didn’t do anything with her art. And my father was a writer as well. I’m also a writer, so he was a writer, and he wrote plays, and he never did anything with these plays. And I think there’s something inside of me that I’m always trying to help the artist and try to get them the attention they deserve and to fulfill their dreams.
Anything else you would like us to know?
Well, let’s see. Did I tell you? My name is Selena Luna. I’m going to be hosting as well. So I’ll be hosting the show and creating it and booking the artists. And I’m just very excited, looking forward to working with this awesome team here and with Jessy. I’m open to supporting artists in Puerto Vallarta.
