At Hospiten, they have the most advanced technology for obtaining fetal images, thanks to high-resolution ultrasound scanners capable of obtaining 3D/4D images. A technology that allows parents to see the baby with the highest possible resolution and in motion.

What is 3D and 4D ultrasound?

It is a non-invasive technology capable of obtaining very high quality images with high frequency sound waves, impressive anatomical images and without radiation.

Thanks to 4D technology, we can see the movement of the fetus in real time, which helps us to have a perception of the behavior of the fetus live, its motor and physiological activity inside the uterus.

Parents can view their unborn child’s facial expressions, such as whether the fetus is grinning, blinking, or yawning, in real time with this ultrasound.

Although this echography can be used to view the fetus with a high-quality image, it should be noted that it should not be regarded as a prenatal diagnosis.

How does it work?

High-resolution ultrasound scanners are used to capture these images, and the mother’s abdomen is covered in a gel. It should be noted that neither the mother nor the fetus are at risk from this ultrasound emission.

With this echography, the doctor can assess the fetus as well as the fetal Doppler, placenta, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord, and cervix.

When is it done?

It can be performed at any week of pregnancy. From the fifth week on, it is already possible to see and hear the heartbeat; observe how the limbs develop and how the brain develops, among other structures. It is advisable to perform it between 24 and 32 weeks, gestational range that offers greater attractiveness and perception of fetal anatomy.

It is important not to use any kind of oil or cream in the abdominal area 3-4 days before the ultrasound.

A 3D/4D image is not always possible to obtain. 10% of the time, a poor image may be caused by the fetal position, the umbilical cord, a lack of amniotic fluid, or the patient’s abdominal fat (obesity).
