Hospiten tells us about pectus excavatum

Hospiten Group has added to its portfolio of services an innovative technique that allows the effects of pectus excavatum, a deformity of the thorax characterized by a medial or lateralized depression of the sternum, to be mitigated by means of 3D implants, through a surgery with minimal risks and short duration.

Surgeon Sara de Cabanyes explains that the technique consists of filling the deformity without touching the rib cage, unlike traditional orthopedic techniques. Each implant is designed to adapt to the patient’s anatomy and the results are immediate.

This pathology occurs in up to 1 in 300-400 births, and in women it is accompanied by breast deformity or asymmetry. Its effects are mainly aesthetic and psychological, rarely functional.

Physical appearance

Physical appearance is the main reason for seeking medical attention, although other symptoms such as discomfort or occasional pain and reduced mobility may also occur.

With the new technique, unique and personalized silicone implants are created by computer using a chest scanner, which allows the reconstruction of the missing space in the breast, the design of the implant and its manufacture from a mold. Implantation takes about an hour.

Once again, Hospiten puts technology at the service of medicine, achieving excellent morphological results regardless of gender, age or type of deformity.
