More about Cabernet Sauvignon

By Rosa Maria Suarez

September 30, 2021

Let’s talk more about Cabernet Sauvignon. As we have said, there is something great about getting to know the one we are talking with more deeply. In fact, it is akin to starting a true friendship.

This beautiful grape produces great full-body wines. It is the perfect partner for meats, peppery sauces, and dishes with a lot of flavors.

As we talked about previously, the terroir, climate, location, and even the wind interfere with the result of a wine. Obviously, this will be happening with the different kinds of grapes. Depending on the country of origin (region), the taste, the color, and the complexity will change.

How awesome is that? It will not be the same to open a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from France, as to open a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from the United States or from Mexico. Fortunately, Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most sown grapes in the world. You will find exponents of this grape from almost every wine-producing country in the world.

The biggest producers of Cabernet Sauvignon in the world are France, Chile, United States, Australia, Spain, and China. Every country will have similarities but also distinctive notes. You surely will notice them once you taste them all.

For example, in Bordeaux, you will find the most savory and most age-worthy expressions. In Chile, you will find the best quality-value standard. In the United States you would find some of the best Cabernets in the world. Australia produces Cabernet with a very different personality, very bold, wild… for sure something you must try.  Meanwhile, Mexico has a nice production; you will find very good wines too.  Maybe it is a surprise to find China among the wine producers of the world. However, although some of the wines you can find around the market right now are not favorites yet, they had just started to produce wines that are winning prizes around the world.

So, you will find yourself in front of different personalities and different ways of expressions. Then you can start to find which country or region is more friendly to you.

Sometimes you find people you like more than others for their personalities and the way you feel around them. The same will happen with grapes. The adventure is to try Cabernet Sauvignon from different countries and regions. Of course, you may start with México. You will be surprised by the quality, flavor, aromas, and complexity of some of the wines you will find.
