Best Puerto Vallarta beaches to spend Easter 2023

By Brenda Beltrán

April 03, 2023

The most visited beaches in Puerto Vallarta during this Holy Week and Easter holiday period are Los Muertos, Las Gemelas, Palmares, Camarones and El Holi, according to the city’s tourism authorities. It is worth highlighting that all of them are suitable for recreational use.

Los Muertos Beach

Los Muertos Beach

Los Muertos is without a doubt the most popular beach in Puerto Vallarta, especially on weekends. It is surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants, cafeterias, pharmacies, hotels and other services.

There is also the Los Muertos Pier, a landmark in Puerto Vallarta where you can board a boat to enjoy a tour around the bay. Here, you can also rent tours to the Mismaloya Arches or to nearby towns such as Quimixto, Las Animas or Yelapa.

Also not to be missed at Los Muertos are the strolling musicians, craft vendors, banana or jet ski rides, parachute, fresh seasonal fruit with lemon and salt, oyster and shrimp vendors. There is also a variety of services such as lifeguards, showers and public restrooms. Beach chairs, lounge chairs and umbrellas are available for rent.

Los Muertos Beach is located in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, 20 minutes from the international airport.

Las Gemelas Beach

Another popular beach is Las Gemelas, located on the way to Mismaloya. Its main features are the blue-green color of water and the light and soft sand, which make it very instagrammable. The access is through the stairs next to the Girasol Condominium. To get there, you can take a bus to Mismaloya on Basilio Badillo Street, in front of an Oxxo convenience store, as you may want to leave your car home for parking is not easy.

In Las Gemelas you can bring your own food and drinks, but it is important to collect the garbage and put it in the containers. You can also enjoy water sports such as snorkeling and kayaking.

Palmares Beach

Palmares beach

Another popular beach is Palmares, which, like Las Gemelas, can be reached by bus on the way to Mismaloya to avoid traffic and parking problems. Upon arrival, you will see a restaurant and a ramp that the authorities are trying to make 100% accessible. Palmares was one of the first beaches in Jalisco to receive the Blue Flag certification. Here, you can also bring your own food and drinks or enjoy the food in the restaurants. The waves are not aggressive, and it is an ideal place for relaxation, fun and family gatherings.

Camarones Beach

Another popular beach is Camarones, an important meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Its soft, light-colored sand invites you to relax with the lapping of the waves, while its gentle, moderate surf is perfect for a refreshing swim.

There are plenty of services available; you can rent an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun or enjoy the beach clubs located nearby. The beach offers typical dishes such as grilled “pescado embarazado” on a stick, shrimp with chili, lemon and salt; and to relieve the heat: tuba, fresh seasonal fruit and ice pops.

In addition, it owns the Blue Flag Certification, expected to be renewed this year; its entarnce is waide and comfortable through San Salvador Street, ending at the sculpture “Los Milenios”.

Playa del Holi

El Holi Beach

Finally, El Holi Beach offers a wide variety of activities, a restaurant to enjoy food, and parking space located next to a shopping center on Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard. We recommend to get there early, especially during this holiday period, because it gets crowded. Walk a few meters and you will find a large expanse of beach where you can rent chairs, tables and umbrellas. There are also massage services, braiding, prepared food and more.

Although Puerto Vallarta is considered one of the destinations with the best beaches, it is important to point out that there are factors that need to be improved, especially the access to the beaches as well as the installation of restrooms.

Last week, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) published the results of the pre-holiday monitoring for Easter Week 2023, with the conclusion that the beaches of Puerto Vallarta are suitable for recreational use.
