Legends in the Steam… Steaming While Learning a bit of Music History

Puerto Vallarta’s Act2PV continues to set the bar for innovative, high-caliber entertainment, and Legends
in the Steam by The VaudeVillains is no exception. Staged in the intimate Ovations Piano Bar, the show
intimate and right in your face in a casual setting.

The night belonged to the remarkable talents of David Maiocco and Cate Valcic, whose chemistry and
stage presence transformed the performance into something truly special. Maiocco’s on the piano and
vocals, paired effortlessly with Valcic’s captivating voice, both delivering a masterclass in storytelling
through music.

One of the most fascinating moments of the night for me, was a deep dive into the unexpected
connection between Frédéric Chopin and Barry Manilow. Maiocco, with a mix of wit and expertise,
demonstrated how Manilow incorporated elements of Chopin’s compositions into his own pop ballads,
subtly blending classical grandeur with modern melodies (at that time). Hearing these influences unfold
on stage—Chopin’s evocative phrasing woven seamlessly into Manilow’s signature style—was a
revelation to me, and I do love a bit of music history with my show and drink!

Beyond the performance, the Ovations Piano Bar itself played a vital role in the night’s magic. The
intimate setting allowed every nuance to shine—every touch of the keys, every shift in vocal tone, and
every push of the “steam” button helped the space created a rare kind of connection, making the music
feel not just performed, but experienced.

With Legends in the Steam, Act2PV proves once again that it is home to some of the most inventive and
engaging performances in Puerto Vallarta. If you haven’t yet witnessed this show, make a point to do
so—you’ll walk away not just entertained, but enlightened and educated… don’t forget your towel… just
kidding don’t wear a towel… or do???
