Puerto Vallarta is a popular vacation destination thanks to its alluring old town, exciting nightlife, and idyllic beaches. But many tourists are unaware that this city is also an underwater haven for scuba divers.

Puerto Vallarta is the ideal location for diving because of its warm, clear waters that provide exceptional visibility. Divers can view a wide range of marine life here, including turtles, rays, whale sharks, and dolphins.

Las Marietas, a small, safe island a few miles off the coast, is one of the most well-liked diving locations in Puerto Vallarta. Divers of all levels can experience thrilling adventures at Las Marietas, a marine life sanctuary with a variety of dive sites.

The renowned “Hoyo Negro,” a hole in the roof of an underwater cave that provides a breathtaking view of the water’s surface, is one of the most impressive dive sites in Las Marietas. Divers can enter the cave and tour the subaqueous passageways that extend far into the island.

Los Arcos, a rock formation in the shape of an arch that is about a 30-minute boat ride from the center of Puerto Vallarta, is another sought-after location for diving. Eels, rays, and numerous tropical fish are among the abundant marine life in the protected area of Los Arcos.

Isla de la Laja in Puerto Vallarta offers experienced divers the chance to go shark diving. Reef sharks and hammerhead sharks frequent this tiny island, which is situated about 35 kilometers off the coast.

However, Puerto Vallarta also provides many other thrilling water sports like snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding for those who are not interested in scuba diving.  And after a day of adventures in the water, visitors can relax on one of the city’s many beaches and enjoy the breathtaking sunset over Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta as a tourist destination has something to offer to everyone. But for diving lovers, the town is truly an underwater paradise well worth exploring.
