Riviera Nayarit to receive Easter week with clean and certified beaches

The municipality of Baha de Banderas, Nayarit, is putting a lot of effort into attracting national tourism this spring break, which is expected to reach an occupancy rate of 85%, pointing to a successful pre-summer season.

Jorge Garcia, the director of Municipal Tourism, emphasized that the staff of this organization is putting a lot of effort into adding more certified beaches to the Riviera Nayarit. He emphasized that they must pay attention to any possible sources of contamination, showing how important it is for restaurants to have procedures in place to deal with them.

They also make sure that all the participating agencies have preventive signage. Another issue that needs to be addressed is water quality, which is tracked on a monthly basis.

Cancun tourist tax used to install 1,000 surveillance cameras

A portion of the money coming in from the Cancun tourist tax is being used to install 1,000 surveillance cameras throughout the city. This is in addition to the 200 cameras that were already installed.

All visitors to Cancun that stay in a hotel, a timeshare hotel, or various other types of accommodations have to pay the Environmental Sanitation Tax.

This is not a per-room charge but a per-person charge that is added to guests’ hotel bills.

It was first introduced in February 2022 and charged at a rate of approximately 28 Mexican pesos, or $1.40 USD, per night.

Funds are contributed to things like infrastructure, beach cleanup, sargassum removal, and, as in this case, security.

Real estate company files lawsuit against the City of Cozumel

Aerial view of Cozumel Marina

A real estate company has filed a lawsuit against the municipality of Cozumel for failing to deliver a water area. The suit was filed last week by Inversiones Turísticas del Caribe S.A.P.I S.A. de C.V. against the municipality for failing to deliver a marina area called La Caleta.

In March of 2011, the company had allegedly signed an agreement with Fonatur for the property that was supposed to be used to build a yacht club. The agreed upon area was just over 14,000 square meters of land and 20,700 square meters of water area that was to become part of a hotel complex.

However the company that owns the Presidente hotel where the marina was supposed to be built says they did not receive the land to build the yacht club as agreed due to objections by local residents and fishermen.
