144 golfers confirmed for the Mexico Open at Vidanta; number one Jon Rahm is back

The 144 players who will compete in the second edition of the Mexico Open at Vidanta, the official tournament of the PGA TOUR, have been announced.

The defending champion and number 1 golfer in the world, Spaniard Jon Rahm, is at the top of the list of confirmed competitors.

The most significant sporting and social event in Latin America will take place from April 27 to 30 at the Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course, where the professionals will compete for a purse of $7.7 million and 500 FedExCup points.

With 11 PGA TOUR victories, including four this year, the Spaniard is returning to Mexico at the height of his career. He also just won the Masters Tournament, which will be his second major championship after the U.S. Open in 2021.

For the second consecutive year, Tony Finau, the 16th-ranked golfer in the world and five-time PGA TOUR champion, has announced his participation.

Gary Woodland, his fellow countryman who has four victories in the top division, including the 2019 U.S. Open, has also declared his participation in the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

Italian Francesco Molinari, whose accomplished career includes three PGA TOUR victories, will be making his debut on the idyllic Vidanta Vallarta course.

Seven Mexicans will also be on the course. Along with amateurs José Cristobal Islas and Omar Morales, Sebastián Vázquez, José de Jess “El Camarón” Rodriguez, Alvaro Ortiz, Raul Pereda, and Roberto Lebrija will compete against the world’s top players.

With the addition of the Argentinians Emiliano Grillo, Fabián Gómez, Tano Goya, Augusto Nez, Alejandro Tosti, and amateur Mateo Fernández de Oliveira, Chile‘s Cristóbal del Solar, Colombia’s Camilo Villegas and Nico Echavarra, and Guatemala‘s José Toledo, Latin America will also be present.

The event will be officially launched on Tuesday, April 25. The action will start at Vidanta Vallarta on Monday, April 27.
