Some of the best surf towns in the country can be found on Mexico’s Pacific coast. There are many surf spots to check out, especially if you are traveling to Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit, whether you are a pro surfer or just looking to learn some new tricks. No matter how many waves you ride, some of the best beach towns in Riviera Nayarit offer a variety of waves for surfers of every skill level, and the vibes are more than enough to keep you upbeat all day.

Surf beaches in Riviera Nayarit

Each year, thousands of surfers visit Riviera Nayarit. The well-liked location provides a wide range of thrilling water sports activities, but surfing is frequently mentioned as one of the favorites. Although it is possible to surf in Puerto Vallarta, most surfers travel further north to the beaches of some of the best surf towns in the country. Riviera Nayarit offers some of the best surfing in the world at Punta Mita, Sayulita, San Pancho, and other beaches.

Punta Burros

This reef break is a well-liked option for those seeking hours of wave time during the winter, but since it’s remote and not connected to a town with eateries and shops, you’ll need to pack your own food and beverages if you intend to surf all day.

La Lancha

The beach has recently been fenced off, but you’ll have a blast there if you hire a local surf guide. Both professionals looking for a great location to shred some waves and beginners looking to hone in their skills will find the fun waves here to be ideal. The beach is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxed, and there is typically no one around.

Best Beach Towns in Riviera Nayarit

Sayulita

Sayulita is frequently mentioned as one of the locations in Mexico with the best surfing. One of Mexico’s most famous surf locations is this laid-back beach town, which offers two breaks: one for longboards and another with faster waves for shorter boards. Sayulita has long been regarded as one of Riviera Nayarit’s best beach towns because of its welcoming surf, delectable dining options, trendy yogi vibes, and breathtaking scenery.

San Pancho

San Francisco, aka San Pancho, is a place further north that locals love to go surfing in Riviera Nayarit. This formerly sleepy town has gained popularity, so now, in addition to the picturesque scenery and excellent open reef surfing, you’ll find a ton of quaint shops, delectable restaurants, and a welcoming atmosphere that make it a fantastic alternative for surfing to Riviera Nayarit.

Punta de Mita

Punta de Mita, a posh beach town perfect for water sports like scuba diving, whale watching, paddleboarding, and surfing, is located at the northernmost point of Banderas Bay. El Anclote, which is close to the restaurant district, and El Faro, which is located about ten to fifteen minutes’ walk north along the beach from the restaurant district, are two locations where you can set up your board.

You will have a great time whether you surf in Puerto Vallarta or travel further north to the Riviera Nayarit’s more well-known surf towns.
