Puerto Vallarta exceeded 92% occupancy during Holy Week

The director of Municipal Tourism of Puerto Vallarta, Christian Preciado Cázares, informed that according to preliminary data, Puerto Vallarta registered an occupancy rate of over 92% during the first week of vacation, which will drop as of this Monday.

The head of the agency commented that Puerto Vallarta has had a great start to the Holy Week vacation period, with a great influx of tourism, especially from Guadalajara, the Bajío, Querétaro and Mexico City, even from other beach destinations such as Mazatlán or Manzanillo.

The official commented that occupancy will drop as of this Monday, since thousands of visitors will be returning home, but tourism with greater purchasing power will arrive and the economic spill will be greater. In this way Puerto Vallarta could reach 85% during Easter Week.

Los Cabos increases lifeguard presence after 9 rescues in one weekend

lifeguard on Los Cabos beach

A total of nine swimmers were found to be in distress and in need of rescue, a significant number for just one weekend.

In response, the local government has decided to increase the number of lifeguards on Los Cabos beaches. Lifeguards in Los Cabos have a very demanding job due to the extreme natural conditions found in the destination.

Many of the beaches here have deceptively short shelves, meaning that a swimmer can enter the ocean waist-deep, only to find themselves abruptly treading water as the ocean floor drops more than 30 feet.

There are few areas where the water depth gradually increases. But it’s not the need to swim that makes Los Cabos beaches dangerous; it’s the conditions created by this drastic change in the underwater landscape.
