Puerto Vallarta set another holiday record for vacationers

Puerto Vallarta beach crowded with tourists

Puerto Vallarta reached a hotel occupancy rate of 90% during the two-week holiday period, which could be another record for this city. During the Holy Days, this destination reached 100% hotel occupancy, a 17% increase in air passenger arrivals and more than two thousand trips at the Puerto Vallarta bus station.

Many people traveled by car. Although traffic was heavy on peak days, causing some inconvenience, many people took advantage of the new section of the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway.

The predominant tourism was domestic, but there was a very important component of foreign tourism during Holy Week and Easter, highlighting the beach, boardwalk, restaurants and nightlife.

Activists make a call for the protection of turtles in the Yucatan Peninsula

sea turtle swimming

In 2022, the Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan group registered around 9,000 nests in Celestun and El Cuyo (Yucatan), and Holbox (Quintana Roo). In the case of Yucatan’s beaches, the increase compared to 2021 was 139% for Celestun and 75% for El Cuyo, according to the civil organization.

Melania Lopez Castro, the head of Pronatura’s Turtle Conservation Program, explained that the nesting season began on April 1st and will last until the end of October or the first few days of November, depending on weather conditions.

She recommends avoiding the passage and entry of heavy vehicles on the beach because it affects the turtle nests already there. It is also necessary to avoid lighting fires at night.
