Phytosanitary filter to remain unchanged at Los Cabos airport despite complaints

Despite tourist complaints, the unpopular but vital phytosanitary inspection will continue.

The phytosanitary prevention measures at Los Cabos International Airport affect tourists in a variety of ways.

The first method, which many tourists are unaware of, is the placement of disinfectant-infused sanitary mats at the plane’s exit and entry to the Los Cabos International Airport terminal.

These disinfecting mats are specifically designed to kill phytosanitary bacteria on shoes that may have been transmitted by tourists who visited farms and animals prior to arriving in Los Cabos.

The more intrusive one for tourists, which actually adds to a number of delays for travelers upon arrival at Los Cabos International Airport, is the inspections conducted by dogs and inspectors.

They are looking for foods such as fruits, vegetables, and meat products such as jerky that may contain phytosanitary bacteria targets.

If a traveler is discovered with these items, they usually have two options. The first step is to spray the items with a disinfectant. The second option is to hand over the items for destruction.

When an official inspector discovers the items in their luggage, most tourists are unsure what to do, adding to the delays for those waiting in long immigration and customs lines at the airport.
