Walking into Casa Karma’s Red Room at Act2PV for Because I Can (Porque Yo Puedo) felt like stepping into an intimate world of music, passion, and storytelling—one that was empowering, sensual, and fascinating from start to finish. Dawn Derow, accompanied by David  Maiocco didn’t just perform; she owned the stage with a show that was as smart as it was fun, as international as it was intimate.

With her little guitar in hand, she transported us to her roots in Massachusetts, sharing how her dad bought into a 1957 propaganda campaign to move there. She reminisced about her home life, where nights were filled with hard Italian drinks, dancing, and music. She honored that legacy with a fiery performance of Mambo Italiano—a personal favorite of mine—bringing the spirit of those Italian evenings to life on stage.

Dawn’s versatility is mind-blowing. She delivered everything from operetta (Boozeta) to jazz, Broadway to cabaret, even stepping into the unexpected with a “porno opera” moment that left the audience laughing in surprise. Her song inspired by her best friend “Jason” and Saturn, gave us a glimpse at her love for astrology and her deep, introspective side, proving she’s just as interesting as she is talented.

She brought her international flair with selections from  Eydie  Gorme’s latin album recorded with Los Panchos. Her performances of Amor, Amor, Amor and Sabor a Mí were nothing short of lovely and sensual, showcasing a voice that adapts effortlessly to any genre.

Her setlist paid tribute to powerful women in music, with Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 serving as the perfect anthem of strength and success. While reflecting on the impact of strong female artists, she mentioned the possibility of bringing a special show to Puerto Vallarta—one that honors 17 legendary women in music.

With a mix of sexy, fun, and completely captivating energy, Dawn Derow gave us a night to remember. If you missed this show, don’t worry—she’s gonna be here a couple more days, if you are lucky you can enjoy her show on Feb 22nd or 24th at  7pm. One thing is for sure: when Dawn Derow is on stage, you’re in for something truly special.
