350 athletes participate in the Wind Festival in Riviera Nayarit
From May 12th to 14th, the 11th edition of the “Festival del Viento Nayarit 2023” was held, considered the most important kiteboarding championship in the country and one of the most important in Latin America.
More than 350 athletes from different countries participated in this festival, most of them experienced athletes from the Olympic Games and other international competitions.

Closed season for sharks and rays is on
The closed season for various marine species began on the first of May, starting with sharks and manta rays, followed by stone oysters on the first of June, lobsters in July and shrimp in the Pacific on the first of September.
This was announced by Pedro Barraza, representative of the oyster farmers of Bucerías, who pointed out that fortunately they still have 15 days left to harvest oysters in their authorised areas, such as El Punto beach in Bucerías and El Tizate, on the border with La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.

Tulum Archaeological Zone to be closed for a week
Beginning on May 15, the Tulum Archaeological Zone will be off-limits to visitors for a full week. The state will temporarily close the historical tourist destination so that work can be done on renovations as part of its improvement program.
Prior to the beginning of construction projects aimed at renovating the service unit and INAH facilities at the archaeological site, the closure is a security precaution.

Cozumel announces official start date for sea turtle nesting season
The beginning of the island’s sea turtle season in 2023 has been announced by Cozumel City Hall. The activities for the Sea Turtle Protection Program of the “San Martin 2023 Season” Turtle Camp will begin on May 17, according to Cozumel City government.
On May 17, groups will start the initial phase of monitoring on the beaches of the island’s eastern coast, which is where the majority of sea turtle arrivals occur. Any nests discovered during this initial phase will be marked by volunteers
