In March, 22 cruise ships will dock in Puerto Vallarta

According to the calendar of the Administration of the National Port System of Puerto Vallarta, there will be 22 cruise ship arrivals in Puerto Vallarta for the month of March, along with the arrival of a ship from the Mexican Navy and luxury yachts.

The arrival of cruise ships at this tourist destination will continue; during the first week of the month, there will be two double arrivals. The Zapoteco ship, which had already arrived in this port in 2020, will arrive on March 13. The Mexican Navy built this ship in 1980, and it was incorporated on June 1 of that same year.

The final three double arrivals, which provide a significant economic boost to the destination, will arrive on March 14, 15, and 29.

February will bring more than 2,200 flights to Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta will close February with more than 2,200 flights, compared to 2,058 during the same period last year, and will continue to lead the nation in hotel occupancy.

In the first fifteen days of this month, Puerto Vallarta registered 1,111 operations, a figure higher than in previous years. In January of this year, the destination also registered good numbers.

The International Airport of Puerto Vallarta was the precinct of the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico that received the highest number of foreign tourists, a little more than 460 thousand users and a growth of 50% compared to the same month of 2022. As for hotel occupancy, last year it closed with 72%, very similar to what it had in 2019.

Mexico has the longest hotel stays in the world

According to the global hotel research platform SiteMinder, Mexico is the country that keeps its visitors in hotel stays the longest, with an average of 2.30 days compared to the world average of 1.93 days.

The website, which rates stays in 19 countries, including the United States and Colombia, reported that it reviewed more than 100 million reservations in more than 36 thousand hotels. It also mentions that the average cancellation rate dropped to 22.6%.

In Mexico, the top 12 hotel booking channels in 2022 were: Booking.com, Expedia Group, Hotel Website (direct bookings), Hotelbeds, Despegar.com, Global distribution systems, PriceTravel, Airbnb, Agoda, World 2 Meet, Hostelworld Group, Getaroom.com, and Getaroom.com.

Riviera Maya records highest occupancy rates in the state

During the last week of February, hotels in Riviera Maya reported a 90 percent occupancy rate, the highest in the state. Hotels in Riviera Maya beat out (barely) the hotel occupancy rates in Cancun during that same week, which were reported to be 89.1 percent.

From Februrary 18 to 24, Isla Mujeres registered an occupancy rate of 75.2 percent, while Costa Mujeres (Isla Mujeres mainland hotels along Isla Blanca) were 87.5 percent full.

Figures are reported by the hotel associations, municipal tourism directorates, and the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council.

The highest percentage of visitors came from the United States with 37 percent. Domestic tourism accounted for 35.9 percent followed by travelers from Canada, the UK, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and France. So far this year, 479,258 tourists have stayed in the Mexican Caribbean

Playa del Carmen central plaza remodeling announced

Mayor Lili Campos has announced the remodeling of Plaza 28 de Julio in central Playa del Carmen has been announced as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the municipality.

After the remodeling, the plaza will accommodate nearly 32,000 people and will allow families to have an ideal space to enjoy with their children with the inclusion of children’s games.

Local businessmen and associations, as well as the Association of Architects and Engineers, will participate in the analysis of the project. Work will likely begin at the end of March and be finished so the plaza can be inaugurated on July 28, the municipality’s 30th anniversary.
