Staff from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) gathered 7 tons of sargassum along 700 linear meters of the beach as soon as sargassum began to arrive on the coast of Cozumel.

According to Noem Tun Celis of the Cozumel City Council, sargassum was found beside Rafael E. Melgar. She said that because it is the major face of the island, fast attention was provided because sargassum had arrived on the beach on Cozumel’s western side.

She claimed that the actions taken contribute to keeping the beaches clean, which promotes the city’s reputation and, by extension, the hotels, restaurants, and stores that receive tens of thousands of visitors each day.
