Sports tourism accounts for 25% of visitors to Jalisco

A quarter of the more than 20 million domestic and international visitors who come to Jalisco every year, or around 5 million, are tourists attracted by sporting activities and events, said the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Jalisco, Claudia Vanessa Pérez Lamas, after attending the inauguration of the second edition of the Mexico Open golf tournament at Vidanta.

The state official stressed that sports tourists can travel at any time of the year, following the routes of different athletic races, football championships or other individual or team sports.

Chasing Sunsets will be an exclusive event taking place in Cabo San Lucas from 9-12 November, featuring 3 nights accommodation in 5-star hotels, beach and select pool parties, drinks and of course a concert with the Dutch DJ.

The event is being organised by Vibee and Insomniac, companies that specialise in organising this type of musical experience in different parts of the world, and they have stated that the Grammy winner will not be the only guest artist, with the rest to be announced in the future.

20 percent of La Paz beaches illegally blocked for tourist access

According to a recent survey by La Paz officials, approximately 20% of the city’s public beaches are unjustly closed off to tourists by local landowners.

Due to a problem with the nearby El Saltito beach’s closure of the beach access, authorities just finished an entire survey. In that instance, a resort owner restricted access to a beach that they thought should only be used by visitors.

The public has only recently been allowed access to the beach.

Cozumel seeking recognition of Best Practices before Unesco

The Biocultural Itinerary of Cozumel is requesting Best Practices accreditation from Unesco. The project was revealed at the Intersectoral and Technical Meeting on Best Practices and Underwater Cultural Heritage, according to the INAH.

The island’s heritage, which spans from prehistory to the 20th century, will be prioritized for diffusion, enjoyment, and responsible access, according to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH)

Isla Mujeres authorities to restrict whale shark tours

New guidelines on conducting whale shark tours safely and sustainably were released this week by the Secretary for the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

The framework places a cap on the number of persons who can take whale shark trips in the area, which is set at 1200 per day on boats that can only be 40 feet long.

The new rules also restrict whale shark tours to spotting the animals whenever there are less than five individuals of the species in the vicinity near the boat or whenever there are several boats.
